Chapter 12

Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
Ephraim[H669] feeds[H7462] on[H1004] wind,[H7307] and[H3063] chases[H7291] the[H5437] east[H6921] wind.[H7307] He[H1004] continually[H8548] multiplies[H7235] lies[H3585] and[H3063] desolation.[H8077] They[H4820] make[H5437] a[H3478] covenant[H1285] with[H5973] Assyria,[H804] and[H3063] oil[H8081] is[H3478] carried[H3478] into[H3063] Egypt.[H4714]

Yahweh also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him.
Yahweh[H3068] also[H3117] has[H3117] a[H3772] controversy[H7379] with[H5973] Judah,[H3063] and[H3117] will[H4714] punish[H6485] Jacob[H3290] according[H5921] to[H3117] his[H3605] ways;[H1870] according[H5921] to[H3117] his[H3605] deeds[H4714] he[H3117] will[H4714] repay[H7999] him.[H5973]

In the womb he took his brother by the heel; and in his manhood he contended with God.

even Yahweh, the God of Armies; Yahweh is his name of renown!

Therefore turn to your God. Keep kindness and justice, and wait continually for your God.

A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.

Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich. I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.”
Ephraim[H669] said,[H559] “Surely[H4191] I[H3027] have[H3027] become[H3027] rich.[H6223] I[H3027] have[H3027] found[H4672] myself[H589] wealth.[H2428] In[H3027] all[H3605] my[H3027] wealth[H2428] they[H3027] won’t[H3808] find[H4672] in[H3027] me[H3027] any[H3605] iniquity[H5771] that[H3027] is[H3027] sin.”[H2403]

“But I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt. I will yet again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast.
But[H3808] I[H3808] am[H1961] Yahweh[H3068] your[H3605] God[H3808] from[H3605] the[H3605] land[H776] of[H3605] Egypt.[H4714] I[H3808] will[H3808] yet[H3808] again[H7725] make[H6213] you[H3605] dwell[H3427] in[H4672] tents,[H168] as[H3605] in[H4672] the[H3605] days[H3117] of[H3605] the[H3605] solemn[H6116] feast.[H2282]

I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables.

If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.
If[H518] Gilead[H1568] is[H3027] wicked,[H7563] surely[H4191] they[H5921] are[H3027] worthless.[H1100] In[H5921] Gilgal[H1537] they[H5921] sacrifice[H2077] bulls.[H6499] Indeed,[H3588] their[H5921] altars[H4196] are[H3027] like[H1819] heaps[H6194] in[H5921] the[H5921] furrows[H8525] of[H3027] the[H5921] field.[H7704]

Jacob fled into the country of Aram, and Israel served to get a wife, and for a wife he tended flocks and herds.

By a prophet Yahweh brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.

Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger. Therefore his blood will be left on him, and his Lord[1] will repay his contempt.
Ephraim[H669] has[H3068] bitterly[H4751] provoked[H3707] anger.[H639] Therefore[H3068] his[H8104] blood[H1818] will[H3068] be[H3068] left[H5927] on[H3068] him,[H5927] and[H3478] his[H8104] Lord[H3068] will[H3068] repay[H7999] his[H8104] contempt.[H937]
