Chapter 31

1.1
Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong,
1.2
but they don’t look to the Holy One of Israel, and they don’t seek Yahweh!
2.1
Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster, and will not call back his words,
2.2
but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.
3.1
Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit.
3.2
When Yahweh stretches out his hand, both he who helps shall stumble,
3.3
and he who is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.
4.1
For Yahweh says to me, “As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, if a multitude of shepherds is called together against him, will not be dismayed at their voice, nor abase himself for their noise, so Yahweh of Armies will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its heights.
5.1
As birds hovering, so Yahweh of Armies will protect Jerusalem. He will protect and deliver it. He will pass over and preserve it.”
5.2
He will protect and deliver it. He will pass over and preserve it.”
6.1
Return to him from whom you have deeply revolted, children of Israel.
7.1
For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin which your own hands have made for you.
8.1
“The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of mankind, shall devour him.
8.2
He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor.
9.1
His rock will pass away by reason of terror,
9.2
and his princes will be afraid of the banner,” says Yahweh, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

Chapter 32

1.1
Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness,
2.1
and princes shall rule in justice. A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the storm, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a large rock in a weary land.
3.1
The eyes of those who see will not be dim, and the ears of those who hear will listen.
4.1
The fool will no longer be called noble, nor the scoundrel be highly respected. The heart of the rash will understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.
6.1
For the fool will speak folly, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice profanity, and to utter error against Yahweh, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7.1
The ways of the scoundrel are evil. He devises wicked plans to destroy the humble with lying words, even when the needy speaks right.
8.1
But the noble devises noble things; and he will continue in noble things.

Chapter 31

1

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they don’t look to the Holy One of Israel, and they don’t seek Yahweh!

Woe[H1945] to[H3381] those[H1945] who[H3068] go[H3381] down[H3381] to[H3381] Egypt[H4714] for[H3588] help,[H5833] and[H3478] rely[H8172] on[H5921] horses,[H5483] and[H3478] trust[H8172] in[H5921] chariots[H7393] because[H3588] they[H3588] are[H3478] many,[H7227] and[H3478] in[H5921] horsemen[H6571] because[H3588] they[H3588] are[H3478] very[H3966] strong,[H6105] but[H3588] they[H3588] don’t[H3808] look[H8159] to[H3381] the[H5921] Holy[H6918] One[H6918] of[H3068] Israel,[H3478] and[H3478] they[H3588] don’t[H3808] seek[H1875] Yahweh![H3068]
2

Yet he also is wise, and will bring disaster, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.

Yet[H1571] he[H1931] also[H1571] is[H1931] wise,[H2450] and[H6965] will[H1571] bring[H7489] disaster,[H7451] and[H6965] will[H1571] not[H3808] call[H7121] back[H5493] his[H5921] words,[H1697] but[H3808] will[H1571] arise[H6965] against[H5921] the[H5921] house[H1004] of[H1004] the[H5921] evildoers,[H7489] and[H6965] against[H5921] the[H5921] help[H5833] of[H1004] those[H5921] who[H1931] work[H6466] iniquity.[H5771]
3

Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When Yahweh stretches out his hand, both he who helps shall stumble, and he who is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.

Now[H4714] the[H3605] Egyptians[H4714] are[H3027] men,[H3605] and[H3068] not[H3808] God;[H3068] and[H3068] their[H3605] horses[H5483] flesh,[H1320] and[H3068] not[H3808] spirit.[H7307] When[H3615] Yahweh[H3068] stretches[H5186] out[H5186] his[H3605] hand,[H3027] both[H3605] he[H3068] who[H3605] helps[H5826] shall[H3068] stumble,[H3782] and[H3068] he[H3068] who[H3605] is[H3068] helped[H5826] shall[H3068] fall,[H5307] and[H3068] they[H3068] all[H3605] shall[H3068] be[H3808] consumed[H3615] together.[H3162]
4

For Yahweh says to me, “As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, if a multitude of shepherds is called together against him, will not be dismayed at their voice, nor abase himself for their noise, so Yahweh of Armies will come down to fight on Mount Zion and on its heights.

For[H3588] Yahweh[H3068] says[H3541] to[H3381] me,[H5921] “As[H3068] the[H5921] lion[H3715] and[H3068] the[H5921] young[H3715] lion[H3715] growling[H7121] over[H5921] his[H3068] prey,[H2964] if[H3588] a[H3588] multitude[H1995] of[H3068] shepherds[H7462] is[H3068] called[H7121] together[H5921] against[H5921] him,[H7121] will[H3068] not[H3808] be[H3808] dismayed[H2865] at[H5921] their[H3068] voice,[H6963] nor[H3808] abase[H6031] himself[H3808] for[H3588] their[H3068] noise,[H6963] so[H3651] Yahweh[H3068] of[H3068] Armies[H6635] will[H3068] come[H3381] down[H3381] to[H3381] fight[H6633] on[H5921] Mount[H2022] Zion[H6726] and[H3068] on[H5921] its[H5921] heights.[H4791]
5

As birds hovering, so Yahweh of Armies will protect Jerusalem. He will protect and deliver it. He will pass over and preserve it.”

As[H3068] birds[H6833] hovering,[H7363] so[H3651] Yahweh[H3068] of[H3068] Armies[H6635] will[H3068] protect[H1598] Jerusalem.[H3389] He[H3651] will[H3068] protect[H1598] and[H3068] deliver[H5337] it.[H5921] He[H3651] will[H3068] pass[H6452] over[H5921] and[H3068] preserve[H4422] it.”[H5921]
6
Return to him from whom you have deeply revolted, children of Israel.
Return[H7725] to[H7725] him[H7725] from[H7725] whom[H834] you[H7725] have[H1121] deeply[H6009] revolted,[H5627] children[H1121] of[H1121] Israel.[H3478]
7

For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold—sin which your own hands have made for you.

For[H3588] in[H6213] that[H3588] day[H3117] everyone[H3605] shall[H3117] cast[H3988] away[H3988] his[H3027] idols[H1544] of[H3117] silver[H3701] and[H3701] his[H3027] idols[H1544] of[H3117] gold[H2091] —sin[H2399] which[H1931] your[H6213] own[H3027] hands[H3027] have[H3027] made[H6213] for[H3588] you.[H3588]
8

“The Assyrian will fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of mankind, shall devour him. He will flee from the sword, and his young men will become subject to forced labor.

The[H6440] Assyrian[H804] will[H1961] fall[H5307] by[H1961] the[H6440] sword,[H2719] not[H3808] of[H6440] man;[H5307] and[H2719] the[H6440] sword,[H2719] not[H3808] of[H6440] mankind,[H120] shall[H2719] devour[H398] him.[H6440] He[H3808] will[H1961] flee[H5127] from[H6440] the[H6440] sword,[H2719] and[H2719] his[H6440] young[H5288] men[H4522] will[H1961] become[H1961] subject[H5647] to[H1961] forced[H4522] labor.[H4522]
9

His rock will pass away by reason of terror, and his princes will be afraid of the banner,” says Yahweh, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

His[H3068] rock[H5553] will[H3068] pass[H5674] away[H5674] by[H5674] reason[H6440] of[H3068] terror,[H4032] and[H3068] his[H3068] princes[H8269] will[H3068] be[H3068] afraid[H2865] of[H3068] the[H5002] banner,”[H5251] says[H5002] Yahweh,[H3068] whose[H834] fire[H784] is[H3068] in[H3068] Zion,[H6726] and[H3068] his[H3068] furnace[H8574] in[H3068] Jerusalem.[H3389]

Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in justice.

A man shall be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the storm, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a large rock in a weary land.

4
The heart of the rash will understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.

But the noble devises noble things; and he will continue in noble things.
9
Rise up, you women who are at ease! Hear my voice! You careless daughters, give ear to my speech!
10
For days beyond a year you will be troubled, you careless women; for the vintage will fail. The harvest won’t come.
